Live Performances: Musica, Muralista! Remembering Alfredo Ramos Martinez

Enjoy a musical and cultural experienceÌý where we honor the artistic legacy of painter/muralist Alfredo Ramos Martinez. The night is a unique celebration that links the Ruth Williamson Gallery and the Margaret Fowler Garden. This program is organized by Williamson Gallery, Scripps Events and MacArthur Fellow, Chicana artivista (artist/activist), musician, feminist music theorist, and 91¶¶Òõ’s Associate Professor and Chair of the Intercollegiate Dept. of Chicana/o-Latina/o Studies ,Martha Gonzalez.

Adding to the festivities are musical guests Quetzal Quartet (including members of Grammy award winning band Quetzal), and Mariachi Familia Mata. Ann alter will be curated by NEA fellow Ofelia Esparza and Rosanna Ahrens Esparza. All artists are united by a common goal to share the social, cultural, political, and musical stories of a people in struggle.Ìý

ÌýThe program will begin at 6 PM at Williamson Gallery with a short musical performance by critically acclaimed mariachi, The Familia Mata . The celebration will then move to the Margaret Fowler Garden via a music procession, where NEA Fellow Doña Ofelia Esparza and Rosanna Ahrens Esparza,Ìý will lead in the Alter dedication. The night will end with a concert by Quetzal and celebratory fandango in Margaret Fowler Garden amid the historic mural by Alfredo Ramos Martinez. Open to all! Bring your dancing shoes and love of music and culture.Ìý
